The sun is - at the time of writing -
out, and this is no joke, people... you’d better make the
most of it. In the time-honored XelaWho tradition of pretending
to be researching while we actually just sit around stuffing our
faces, we bring you our mini-guide to the best outdoor eats in
Xela:
Las Lagartijas (15 Av “A” 3-05, Zona
1. Lunch & Dinner Tues-Sun) This beautiful ivy-covered stone
courtyard is a definite standout in the Xela patio eating scene.
There’s some delicious tapas on offer and good sandwiches
if you’re after something a bit more substantial.
El Panorama (13 Av “A”, Zona 1. Lunch
& Dinner Sat & Sun, Dinner only Wed-Fri) A ten minute
slog uphill from the Plazoleta San Antonio, the Panorama puts
on some excellent Swiss and international dishes, with an awesome
view out over the whole of Xela. The grassy garden out front isn’t
a bad place for afternoon beers, either.
Balcon del Enriquez (12 Av, Zona 1. Entrance
to the left of Pasaje Enriquez) This balcony restaurant overlooking
the Central Park has never really floated our boats food-wise,
but it’s a great place for drinks and the people-watching
opportunities are endless.
Smoothies Rum (7 Calle 15-23, Zona 1. 4-11pm
Tues-Sun) Probably the best-decorated eatery in town, you could
go for the African or Hindu room, but we prefer to chow down in
the cobblestone patio, under the big tree.
Baviera 2 (22 Av 4-49, Zona 3. 8am-8pm) The time-honored
Baviera formula of excellent coffee and big breakfasts hits Zone
3, this time with the addition of a stunning colonial-style courtyard
setting.
