It may not break the world record, but what certainly promises to be a very large burrito is coming to Xela. A burrito that may be, in fact, the largest burrito ever to be constructed within the borders of the country. Burritologists from all over the world are expected to descend on Balalaika’s (14 Avenida A, 3-26) on Thursday October 23rd to take part in the study (and consumption) the epic burrito.
By all accounts, the burrito’s size will be exceeded only by its tastiness—as it is prepared by the master chefs that cook up Balalaika’s delicious fare. Meat-eating and vegetarian burrito enthusiasts alike should expect to find enough food for both lunch and dinner.
Burrito-Thon, as it most certainly will be known, will last from 1 pm to 7 pm—or long enough to eat a
section of burrito, run an entire marathon, and return for the end of the projected five-meter burrito.
The public is advised to show up early and often—while the burrito is expected to be taller than the average basketball team, demand is expected to be high; especially because portions of the burrito will sell for only Q15.
Proceeds from the sale of the burrito will help the scholarship fund at Colegio Miguel Angel Asturias, a non-profit Pre K-12 school that opens up access to education for low-income students. A raffle, and excellent music also promise to make the Burrito-Thon an event to remember.
The word burrito, or any of its variants, has been used sixteen times (including the time in this sentence) in this article and will be retired for the remainder of 2008.
