Social Projects:

If you would like to volunteer in one of pour projects for a week or so, you can work in the casa de lectura (see below) or help build energy efficient stoves in the villages around Xela.

For longer-term volunteer positions, we can organize work in child care centers, womens shelters, English teaching and other selected development programs.

Working on our hand-picked social projects gives you the opportunity to help the people of Guatemala while you learn Spanish.
Examples of projects include: English teaching, work with children from broken homes, scholarships, constructing safe, low-fuel burning stoves, donations to a local libraries in primary and secondary schools.
El Quetzal also has a library (the Casa de lectura "Noj") which provides services to students of primary and secondary schools, free of charge. It's located inside the school premises and you are welcome to work there.
